William J. Milliken is a Portland, Maine-based professional auctioneer, licensed attorney, veteran and fundraising consultant specializing in benefit auctions for nonprofit organizations. He is the founder and principal of WJM Auctioneers and is the only Benefit Auction Specialist (BAS) actively practicing in the State of Maine.

The BAS designation is awarded by the National Auctioneers Association (NAA) to fewer than 180 auctioneers nationwide - less than one percent of all licensed auctioneers - and recognizes expertise in the specific strategies, donor psychology and event management required to maximize revenue at charitable fundraising events. Bill also holds the NAA's Certified Auctioneer Institute (CAI), Auction Marketing Management (AMM) and Graduate Personal Property Appraiser (GPPA) designations.

Bill is a US Army veteran and earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the University of Southern Maine and a Juris Doctor from the University of Maine School of Law. He has a diverse and varied background having practiced criminal defense and labor law before founding a number small businesses, including several beverage and liquor retail stores and a coffee shop. He is a graduate of the Western College of Auctioneering and currently serves as President of the Maine Auctioneers Association. He is also a licensed auctioneer in Massachusetts and a member of the Massachusetts Auctioneers Association.

Prior to founding WJM Auctioneers, Bill co-purchased and operated Barridoff Auctions in Portland, Maine - the state's most established fine art auction house - before selling it in 2025. He also founded Friends of the Saint Lawrence Church, the nonprofit organization that restored Portland's historic Saint Lawrence Church into The Hill Arts, a performing arts center in Portland's East End neighborhood.

WJM Auctioneers serves nonprofit organizations throughout Maine and New England, providing comprehensive benefit auction consulting, event strategy, live auction performance, Fund-a-Need facilitation and post-event analysis. Bill regularly attends the NAA's annual Benefit Auction Summit, Conference and Show and other industry events to maintain expertise in the latest fundraising techniques. He is also a board member of the Portland Maine Rotary Club (District 7780) and a legislative attorney for the Maine Legislature.
